Mason Fire Department Recognizes Standouts

Fire & EMS

Mason, New Hampshire, December 27, 2022 —

On December 18th the Mason Fire & EMS Department gathered for their annual family breakfast. This year however the Chief’s brought back a past tradition and put a twist on the event by giving out service awards. The years of service awards that were given were as follows:

  • 20 years of service to EMT Kathy Chapman
  • 15 years of service to Lieutenant Kirk Smith
  • 10 Years of service to Firefighter’s Bryan Herrin and Lee Lemoine
  • 5 years of service to EMT A. Michael Brampton

In addition to the years of service awards we had some special awards for those who did exceptionally well for us in the areas of training and response.

  • Firefighter of the Year went to Firefighter Zac Partridge. Firefighter Partridge answered over 50% of the calls and department drills for the year. This was in addition to successfully completing the state Firefighter I certification program that is 202 hour and the National Emergency Medical Responder program that is another 84 hours. This made firefighter Partridges’ training hours at 333 hours for they year. This is nothing more than incredible all while working a full-time job. Firefighter Partridge also took on addition task to assess our fill sites and help come up with a maintenance plan for them as well as starting the process of placing dry hydrants in year around locations.
  • EMS Provider of the Year Went to Emergency Medical Responder Heidi Delorme. EMR Delorme is our primary weekday responder and responds to all daytime responses, between 7am and 4pm, which was a significant amount of the call volume for 2022. In addition to that there are training hours that are required to maintain you license as a provider in the state an EMR Delorme meets those hours successfully since she joined us in 2011.
  • Rookie of the year went to Trainee Melissa Rantamaki. Trainee Rantamaki joined us this year and in her time with us has attained her CDL permit and pump training to become a driver for us. Trainee Rantamaki also attended specialized pump training offered by WD Perkins Pump service to be prepared to operate the truck at the scene of an incident. For 2023 she is enrolled in the Emergency Medical Responder program and once completed will be added to the medical response team as well.
  • Officer of the year went to Lieutenant Kirk Smith. Lt. Smith has been with us 15 years and volunteered to take on the CDL training program to get more drivers at the department. This program is a significant undertaking working around people’s schedules and meeting the hour requirements the program requires. Lt. Smith also must work with the Hollis Fire Department team to get the testing piece of the program completed. This was a real big step for us and an investment in our team that Lt. Smith took head on and ran with.

Chief Burns stated he is so grateful for these people and the remainder of the staff, there commitment, and dedication to our citizens. These people stepped up and are an inspiration to the staff and a testament to the type of people we are looking for at the Mason Fire-EMS Department and deserved to be recognized for their accomplishments. No one person can do this alone and with a staff like ours we don’t have to.
